Traffic Safety Analysis - From Finding The Problem To Fixing It

July 29, 2008
Kalamazoo County Road Commission
3801 East Kilgore Road
Kalamazoo, MI

Safe roads are a priority whether you manage a few local roads or are responsible for thousands of miles of freeway. The challenge for local agencies trying to improve safety on their road network is: “What can I do and how do I find the resources to do it given all my other commitments?” Historically, completing traffic safety analysis even on a small network of roads was a time consuming process, consisting of sorting through endless piles of crash reports, drawing and redrawing crash diagrams while looking for common elements.

The RoadSoft Safety Module was designed specifically to provide tools and data to help local agencies screen their road network for crash problems with minimal effort. RoadSoft comes with 10 years of located crash data and a road map pre-loaded, so from day one an agency can start safety analysis.

This workshop will take participants through the safety process from screening their network
for high crash locations, to site level analysis, to evaluating countermeasures. The workshop focuses on safety analysis tasks that can be accomplished in RoadSoft as well as safety studies that occur in the field. During the workshop participants will be utilizing their own crash data in RoadSoft, so participants will need to bring a laptop computer with their version of RoadSoft already loaded.

Who Should Attend?
You should attend the workshop if you’re a county or city engineer or technician, and you’re interested in learning how to conduct a detailed safety analysis of your roadway network. A background in traffic safety is NOT necessary.

For more information see the workshop brochure below, or call (906) 487-2102.
